Pride vs Ego-Ism
“Well you know - pride always comes before a fall.”
UHM. I think this is junk. Absolute garbage actually. I think pride, when rooted in humility is a healthy part of self-worth and gives you the strength to set boundaries. Pride isn’t a bad thing.
Egoism and self-righteousness ARE bad things. Pride effects your ego but your ego doesn’t have to effect your pride. Your ego is what prevents you from seeing ‘the big picture’. Your ego is what prevents you from listening to the ideas of others. Your ego is also what makes you a ‘has been’. You see ego is the inner part of your mind that puts yourself on a pedestal. You become your own deity. When your ego escapes logic you fail. You make bad decisions and it negatively impacts others.
Ego trips. We’ve all seen them. It’s so easy to fall prey to ego though; especially when you accomplish something everyone naysayed. If you want to avoid egoism keep your mind in sync with your heart and rooted in love.
Self-righteousness is similar to ego. It’s self idolization. It’s making yourself a savior and worthy of someone’s allegiance. The allegiance manifests in niche Churchianity where leaders assume that their interpretation of Scripture is the only way. It’s dangerous but warned about in scripture. Additionally, you find this type of attitude from NFL players and televangelists recounting their glory days. You might also see this from c-suite executives who aren’t familiar with a hard day’s work. Self-righteousness prevents a leader from having compassion for their comrades or coworkers; it’s the root of self-destruction. We see it all to often in history.
Egoism and self-righteousness are dangerous mind games because they often go unchecked. The people who demonstrate those mindsets lack accountability because they won’t listen to it. They won’t be corrected or called down by anyone for any reason. If you are in a space where that behavior isn’t required to fulfill your job duties please leave. You deserve better than toxic behavior.
Pride - I hope you all have a good size dollop in your character. Pride, when rooted in humility born out of love, is actually a good thing. Pride allows you to set healthy boundaries to say, “Mmm….child - no.” Pride is an element of self-respect or self-worth; please have some. Have some healthy pride. Take pride in your work just don’t ego trip from it. Take pride in your accomplishments just don’t use them as a mark against someone. Take pride in your mistakes just don’t repeat them. It is ok for you to find value in your life - it looks a lot like pride. Pride will be a driving force to empower you to leave an environment stricken with egoism.
PLEASE - HAVE SOME PRIDE.
