Confession
Why is confession important?
If we want to come into alignment or see Yahweh in our lives we have to have a relationship with him. Often times we view Yahweh as a punitive deity waiting to scold or correct us. Likewise, we view Yeshua as the big brother who gets us out of trouble. When we operate in this mindset and things go awry our first response is to blame God because he didn’t Santa dust and glitter our happenstance.
God loves us and has given us a free and sound mind. In order to have access to the Father, we must access Yeshua.
Scripture References:
1.) In the begging was the word. John 14:6
2.) Jesus is the word, John 1:1-3, 14
3.) Meditate on the word. Psalm 104:34
4.) To the father through Him. John 14:11
5.) Adam and Yahweh walked together and had dominion. Genesis 2:26
Confession is a fancy way to say: COMMUNICATION. Communication is how you foster relationship and behold goodness. (Romans 10:9)
Consider this:
Will you be close to someone you never talk to, observe, or spend time with?
Will you be close to someone if you don’t share your heart?
The Bible tells us to guard our hearts but why do you guard your heart? To protect it; because you don’t trust people with it. We do not have to protect our hearts from Yahweh. He is good and trustworthy. Confession to Yahweh is NOT to receive judgment. Our actions can receive judgment or justice but the confession of our heart is to welcome our Maker and King into fellowship with us.
David, Solomon, all of the prophets, cry out to God. Psalms offer every type of heartache. (Psalm 56:8 | Psalm 55:1 | Psalm 57:7 | Psalm 64:5)
God is NOT chomping at the bit to take a swing at you. In Charasmania we adore judgment and punishment. We love reveling in the demise of someone else’s wrongness so we can solidify our self-righteousness but that is NOT why we were created. There is a time and place for justice but we were not/are not created to be punished.
We were created for dominion and communion. We were created to walk with our Creator. (Psalm 51:6, 11)
There is a difference between the fear of reverence and fear of punishment. If you’re avoiding talking to God because you’re scared He will smite you I PROMISE that is not the God of heaven. Proverbs 28:13 &14 | Romans 10:10
Confess your heart but release the grudge you hold against Yahweh. I oftentimes hear, “ Well I’m just mad at God…”
Y’all! That’s a stalemate and no one wins in a stalemate. No one wins in a standoff. When you engage in a standoff with Yahweh you lose. You will not win; you end up bearing the entire burden of something that isn’t yours to hold on to - it was meant to be His. Bearing self-reliance that isn’t sustainable yields anxiety.
If you have a “I’m just ________________________ “ fill in the blank statement to offer Yahweh then TELL HIM. JUST DON’T CAMP OUT WITH IT. He’s not afraid of how you feel about Him. God is not afraid of you. He is not afraid of the darkness of your thoughts, the doubt in your mind. Withhold it and keep it with you (or maybe share it with your therapist) but that’s still not offering you a close relationship with Yahweh. Instead, share your heart with our MAKER.
Beholding, meditating, communicating, confession, can take as much time or as little time as it needs. (Psalm 104:34 )Confession, communication, fellowship is NOT to be confused as escapism. However, it does require intention. What you behold, confess can change your inner thoughts. Your inner thoughts influence your beliefs. Shift those wiry trains of thought to spoken words -give them a punctuation mark. Speak them out to our Maker. (2 Corinthians 3:18)
Why do we do this?
Shalom. Peace. Knowing. Being known. Confidence. Unity with the Trinity.
Isn’t this better than shame? Isn’t this better than withholding our heart? We have an open invitation to intimately know our Savior and walk with Him.
